Television Viewing

Television viewing by children can be detrimental to their future.  It is not simply a waste of time, but time spent decreasing their potential.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no television viewing under the age of two and limited viewing for older children.  No child should watch more than 2 hours per day of television.

Why?

Television Viewing...

- shortens attention spans

-slows reading skill development

-slows speaking skill development

-conditions a child to dual distraction of sound and images, which is not available in the classroom setting

-slows development of thinking skills

-slows development of imagination

-research shows that the brain development of children, particularly under the age of 4, is adversely affected by television viewing
